He was shot dead after he refused to stop at a road block. The driver failed to stop at a road block prompting the police officers to shoot at the matatu wheels. The driver and the conductor managed to escape but when John tried to escape he was shot at the leg and fell down. The police officers came where he was laying and shot him dead.
