On June 23rd of 2016, Willie Kimani, Josephat Mwenda and Joseph Muiruri were coming from Mavoko Law Courts when they were abducted allegedly by Administration Police officers. A search of the three Began that night after they were confirmed missing. A habeas corpus application was filed in court and on July 1, 2016, their bodies were found in Ol Donyo Sabuk River.
Four police officers; Senior Sergent Fredrick Leliman (1st accused), Stephen Chebulet (2nd accused), Sylvia Wanjiku (3rd accused) and Leonard Mwangi (4th accused) and a civilian Peter Ngugi (5th accused) were consequently arrested and charged with the murder of Willie, Josephat and Joseph. Lady Justice Jessie Lessit has already heard evidence from 38 witnesses. The court has additionally heard evidence from six prosecution witnesses and the fifth accused person in a trial within a trial that was ordered to determine the admissibility of a confession statement- given by the fifth accused person (Ngugi).

Mr Charles Mugambi was shot and killed as he traveled back to Kericho from Kisumu in the company of two junior officers at around 2am. The junior officers who were with the deceased during the incident were arrested.
